LANES on both sides of a motorway were closed and traffic held in one instance after two crashes this morning.

The collisions happened on the M62 - one is on the eastbound carriageway between junction 22 (Rishworth Moor) and junction 23 (Huddersfield), while the other is on the westbound carriageway between junction 27 (Gildersome) and junction 26 (Chain Bar).

The crash on the eastbound carriageway was first reported at 9.08am, according to the AA.

Lanes two and three (of three) were closed, with traffic being passed through lane one.

Traffic was being held on the westbound carriageway due to that crash.

Both collisions were causing queues on the motorway.

The average speed on the eastbound carriageway at junction 22 was down to 11 miles per hour, and 22mph at junction 23, at one point, according to National Highways.

It was at 25mph on at junction 27 on the westbound carriageway.

But the crashes were cleared after a few hours.

All lanes had reopened on the westbound carriageway just before 11am.

Traffic was still queueing at this point but had cleared by 12.46am.
