A postman and two passers-by saved the lives of two young women trapped in a burning car in Idle yesterday.
The engine compartment of the blue Mazda 6, which the women were inside, burst into flames when it collided with a sycamore tree as it was being driven along Kings Road at 12.30pm.
A spokesman at Bradford fire station said the front end was so badly damaged that the women, believed to be in their mid-20s, could not escape as the flames began to spread.
He said: "Three males in their early thirties spotted them and it took all three to prise open the passenger door and drag them to safety.
"It was a brave, heroic act and it saved their lives.
"There was no explosion, but when we arrived the fire had spread to the dashboard, the steering wheel and the airbags."
The women suffered smoke inhalation and one of them had an injured leg. Firefighters gave them oxygen therapy before they were taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary.
