A gala to celebrate 60 years of the Marie Curie Hospice charity was opened by Emmerdale star Mathew Bose who plays barman Paul Lambert.

Speaking at the event at the Maudsley Street hospice, Bradford, on Saturday, the Bradford actor said: “I’m really honoured and privileged to be here.”

Clive Hornby, who played soap favourite Jack Sugden, died at the hospice in July.

Mr Bose said: “We have a special connection with this hospice because a colleague and friend of ours was here.

“This hospice gave him dignity, support, kindness and privacy.”

Queensbury Junior Band and the Bradford Magic Circle performed at the gala day, which was attended by more than 150 people.
