Police are hunting an armed gang who attempted to rob a bank yesterday afternoon.
At least three men, two of whom were armed with a machete and what appeared to be a handgun, burst into the HSBC in Bradford Road, Cleckheaton, at about 1.30pm and demanded money.
The robbers, who were all wearing black balaclava masks, were not able to get any cash.
They fled to a waiting black Honda Civic, after grabbing a handful of cheques. The car sped off in the direction of the M62.
Police believe a total of four men might have been involved in the robbery. Some of them may have been wearing striped tops.
A police spokesman said: “Nobody was injured in the incident but it must have been a terrifying experience for the staff and customers.
“All the robbers got away with was a few cheques, which would be of no value to them.”
Anyone with information about the robbery should contact Dewsbury CID on 0845 6060606, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
