Police reopened a stretch of Otley Road in Shipley at lunchtime today, after keeping it closed overnight to enable fire fighters to investigate a leaking gas cylinder.

Fire crews were called to Driving Exhausts and Tyre Specialists at about 12.30pm yesterday after the acetylene cylinder caught fire.

Police were then called in to seal off Otley Road between Briggate and Market Street because of the threat of an explosion, and the road remained closed overnight.

A hazardous materials officer attended the scene, joining firefighters from Shipley and Idle.
