IT has been a week of cup finals, with Campion passing on the title of West Riding County Cup holders to Pontefract Collieries.

The Bradford side beat Liversedge 2-1 in the final last year to win the trophy for the first time in their history.

But their attempts to retain the crown were ended by Pontefract at this year’s quarter-final stage, as Collieries won a marvellous match 3-2.

Ponte went on to demolish Wakefield AFC 4-0 in the semis, and they were joined in the final by Knaresborough Town, who edged out Guiseley 2-1 in the other last-four clash.

The final took place on Bank Holiday Monday, and Pontefract, who play at a level higher than Knaresborough, made the most of their favourites tag, winning 4-0 to take home the title for the first time in their history.

The Women’s County Cup final took place last night, with huge underdogs Leeds Modernians coming just 10 minutes away from a seismic shock.

They play four divisions below fellow finalists Halifax FC, but took a surprise lead early on after a defensive error.

Halifax, who had missed a penalty in the first few minutes, looked as if they had run out of ideas, but Meg Boydell scored twice late on to ensure her side came from behind to take victory and retain the cup they had won last season.

Finally, Parkgate claimed a sensational Northern Counties East League League Cup triumph on Wednesday night.

The NCEL Division One champions had knocked out Premier Division high-flyers Silsden and Campion in the quarter-finals and semis respectively to reach the final at Scunthorpe United’s Glanford Park.

Emley, the NCEL Premier Division winners, stood in the way in midweek, but Parkgate swept the favourites aside, winning 3-0 to take home the trophy.
