Bulls star Sam Burgess swapped codes to help prepare Old Brodleians youngsters ahead of the Lexus Junior Rugby Festival in Sheffield.

The England international attended a VIP shirt presentation at the new Lexus Centre in Bradford before lending his expertise at a couple of training sessions.

Dave Dixon of Old Brods said: “It was a wonderful way to spur the lads on. It’s not every day you get to meet a rugby international.

“Sam’s a great role model for any youngster who enjoys sport. He’s a local lad with the world at his feet.

“It would be nice to think a couple of the youngsters we have in our squad might go on to play at a higher level too some day.”

Representing Bradford, Old Brods under-16s beat Burton 14-0 before losing out to eventual winners Hull Ionians and then Harrogate in a dramatic last-second defeat.

Perry Wilson, Adam Dixon and Chris Vine were all nominated for player of the tournament, while the club’s under-13s reached the semi-final stage of their competition.
