Travel-sick Cleck let lead slip

Cleckheaton once more showed their inconsistent form when going down to West Park after holding a 12-point lead going into the last quarter.

They were first on the scoreboard when a deft grubber kick inside by winger Craig Blackburn was gathered and finished off by Ross Hayden, who converted his own try.

Two further tries by newcomers Dominic Brambani and Marlon Miller helped give Cleck a 19-12 lead at the break.

Stand-off Brambani was showing his quality and pace in the pivotal role and within five minutes of the second half, his side extended their lead to 12 points when Miller scored his second try following an excellent kick by Matthew Piper.

As West Park made changes of personnel, so their spirits rose and tries by John McGarvey and Neil Best reduced the arrears to two points.

In the 57th minute, substitute McGarvey put West Park in the lead for the first time with a penalty and on 74 minutes secured victory with another successful penalty from under the posts.

Cleckheaton rallied but were unable to create to score and remain winless on their travels.
