Skipton 9, Bradford Salem 19

Bradford Salem continued their promotion push with a fine victory over fifth-placed Skipton at Sandylands.

Salem went 3-0 behind in the opening minute after they were penalised from the kick-off and centre Martin Thomsen landed the simple conversion.

The visitors received a let-off after ten minutes when Thomsen’s long-range penalty attempt fell short of the uprights.

Salem thought they had hit back when, after excellent handling in the backs, winger Chris Savva raced over the line, only to be called back for a forward pass.

However, flanker Steve Cowman (pictured) crashed over from a quick tap penalty and Jonny Robinson added the extras.

The Heaton side were now in the ascendancy and second row Damien Pearson forced his way over the line for a converted score to make it 14-3.

In the second half, Salem were disrupted when Pearson and his replacement John Morrell both left the field with injuries.

The home side kicked two penalties to reduce the arrears but Salem's defence held firm and they sealed victory when Savva scored in the corner after a Skipton mistake.
