The first Yorkshire Pudding – a weekend of urban orienteering organised by Airienteers – was a great success and attracted 250 competitors from Yorkshire and beyond.

Race one on Saturday was a two-stage sprint event round Leeds University campus, with a prologue race in the morning and a ‘chasing start’ in the afternoon – a runner’s start time being determined by their time in the prologue and first past the post wins.

The second event – on Saturday evening – was a night course around Beckett Park and involved a mixture of university campus (partly lit) and woodland (very dark; torch required).

On Sunday morning, the final event was a street ‘O’ around Skipton town centre, with runners sprinting in and out of alleyways, across canals and round street furniture amid surprised shoppers.

Each race result counted toward the Pudding Prize and Airienteers had two Pudding winners, both from Ilkley: Chloe Haines in the women’s open and Sue Stevens in the women’s supervets.

Other notable results for Airienteers were: Heather Phipps (second in the Open); Margaret Parker (third in the supervets), and, in the men’s races, David Alcock was second in the open and Steve Webb third in the vets.

The previous weekend, Airienteer Victoria Stevens ran for England in the Senior Home Internationals in Scotland, winning her individual race.
