Avenue complete double signing

5:30pm Monday 11th August 2008

Two significant signings took place at Horsfall Stadium over the weekend, with manager Dave Cameron penning an extension to his contract and a new striker joining from Stalybridge Celtic.

Cameron was rewarded for gaining promotion to the UniBond Premier Division in his first season in charge, and he moved swiftly to snap up proven goalscorer Chris Hall.

The big marksman was on target regularly for Celtic last season.

“I’m delighted to get Chris – it is a huge boost to the football club,” said Cameron.

“He was in the England non-league team last year, that shows how highly he is regarded in the game.

“He scored 20 goals in the Blue Square North and that is no mean achievement.

“The lad is 6ft 4in and so quick he can catch pigeons. He is also a no nonsense player and knows how to get what he wants. Another beastie to add to my new-look lean and mean outfit.”

Cameron, a mild mannered, humorous and calm individual away from the pitch, assumes a different persona when the whistle blows.

As a player or a manager he is a born winner who demands one hundred percent effort and commands respect.

As many good managers before him have done, he is building a team in his own image. No Avenue side that he sends out will ever be accused of coasting, let alone rolling over and dying.

The ‘beasties’ that the big Scot refers to so often are out of the same mould.

The board have recognised his leadership qualities and have been impressed with his recruitment during the close season, which led to them offering him an improved contract.

“I’m not interested in the length of the contract, I’m just happy to sign,” added the Avenue boss, who put pen to paper after Saturday’s friendly against his former club Rhyl.

“It is not the job security that comes with the contract that pleases me as much as the fact that it shows I have the backing of the board. They are obviously pleased with what has been achieved since I’ve been here.

“From my end, I’m chuffed at the level of backing I have received. I’m sure that together we can take the club forward yet again.”
