The boys’ side of BD3 United is well established, with eight teams and over 120 registered players.

But the club are hoping to introduce girls’ teams.

To that end, they have appointed Safina Ahmed as girls’ development officer.

She said: “As a young sporting female myself, I would like to further promote and develop girls’ football and encourage more young Asian females to join us and become more actively engaged in sport, physical activity and to be more of a part of their community.

“We do have a group of regular attendees to our training sessions but I feel that so many girls in the area are missing out on a great opportunity.

“Apart from anything else, there are long-term health benefits, as well as the enjoyment that the girls would get out of it.”

Girls aged from seven to 16 already have indoor training sessions under the supervision of female FA-qualified coaches on Saturdays (10.30am-noon) at Frame 2, which is off Barkerend Road and is also known as City Sports Centre.

About 20 youngsters regularly attend, mainly aged from ten to 16, but around 35 are registered.

The hope is to at least form an under-14 team to play league games next season but girls from younger age groups would be particularly welcome so another age-group team could be formed.

Anyone interested in attending can contact Safina on 07885-390244.
