Teenage all-rounder Andrew Wear has just notched six of the best.

The 13-year-old picked up SIX trophies at Denholme Cricket Club’s annual prize presentation.

Leg-spinner Andrew did the triple at under-13 level (batting, bowling and fielding) and also won the under-15 batting award and shared their player of the year prize.

However, perhaps the most impressive of his achievements was to win the first-team bowling award.

“I don’t think anyone in the club’s history has won it at such a young age,” said his dad David, who is first-team captain.

“He took 24 wickets in 14 matches and we used him from the start of the season because we wanted more variety in our attack.

“If he didn’t get hit out of the attack straight away, we used to bowl him in 11 or 12-over spells as, because he is a spinner, there is no restriction on how many overs he can bowl despite him being so young.”

Wear senior added: “His control is very good and he has a googly and a top-spinner.

“Also Andrew has had to get used to playing different forms of the game from under-13s up to senior cricket and also get used to different lengths of wickets.

“But he tends to bowl better in the first-team matches than in the juniors. In the under-13s, he can only bowl three overs and a few stumpings were missed off him.”

Andrew said: “I like playing for the first team because I can bowl long spells and I enjoy playing in a better standard of cricket.

“Next season I can play for the under-15s, under-17s and the first team but my ambition is to play for Yorkshire.”
