Juniors from Baildon Jitsu Club have become national champions for a third successive year.

To win the honour, the 26 members, who train at Salt Grammar and Bradford Grammar, had to defeat 17 other clubs at Walsall Judo Centre.

Many of the Baildon Jitsu Club contingent, who ranged in age from six to 17, came away with trophies but those that missed out had the consolation of a medal of attendance. Instructors Raj Soren, Robert Ashcroft, Emma Shaw and Rachel Smith were rightly proud of their team.

They had medals and trophies re-presented by Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Howard Middleton, and Lady Mayoress Colleen Middleton at Bradford Grammar School.

It was a happy end to a difficult story as the club had to relocate to two separate venues after the floods.

Bradford also notched third place overall through the ARC Jitsu Club in Canterbury.
