Ilkley’s Josh White is literally following in the footsteps of Formula One motor racing world champion Lewis Hamilton.
The 12-year-old won the Cadet PF International Championship on the same day that Hamilton was fulfilling his dream in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
And, as if that was not scary enough, both Hamilton and White clinched the title with fifth-place finishes, the Ilkley youngster emulating Hamilton’s PF victory of 13 years ago.
The tension might have been unbearable at Interlagos after that last-lap switch that put Hamilton back on top but it was not far short of that at the Lincolnshire circuit, where White needed to finish within five places of his rival.
After winning the first heat in treacherous conditions, the Fusion driver crashed in the second heat but drove his kart, whose chassis had to be straightened, to the required fifth place, despite a few alarms.
