Mwah, mwah, then air kiss me again. And may I say you look wonderful tonight darling.

I’m penning this column in my cravat and silk dressing gown, you know.

Putting my cigar holder to one side, let me explain. I’ve joined the ranks of the luvvies.

You see, myself and two esteemed partners took to the stage of the Ilkley literary festival this week.

That’s right. The chattering classes came to see little old moi elicit a few gems from the journalistic trade. It was simply marvellous.

All right, enough of this baloney.

I joined Duncan Hamilton, the author of the award-winning book about Brian Clough, and a certain Dean Windass (pictured) for an hour’s gentle question-and-answer session in the Playhouse.

It was a good laugh and the place was full – quite a feather in our cap considering we were going head-to-head with famous old rocker Rick Wakeman across the road!

But there were no awkward silences, amazingly no swear words, and the event passed off peacefully.

And afterwards, it was a relief to see a familiar face in the foyer as City Gent’s genial giant Mike Harrison homed into view.

Naturally, I asked him if he’d enjoyed his evening’s entertainment.

He had. Rick Wakeman, apparently, was excellent.
