Bradford College have expressed their joy at student Nicola Adams’ success in the AIBA Women’s World Championships in China.
Leeds-based Adams, who is a boxing academy student through Bradford College and Bradford Police Clubs, won the silver in the 54kgs Bantamweight finals and in doing so became the first to gain a medal for England.
Principal of Bradford College Michele Sutton said: “We are absolutely delighted for Nicola winning a silver medal in the Women’s Boxing World Championships. I know that her tutors and the Amateur Boxing Association had great hopes for her in this competition and that she has exceeded all our expectations.
“We are very proud to have Nicola as a student at Bradford College representing our sports academies”.
Bradford Boxing development officer Paul Porter added: “I’m over the moon for Nicola. She’s done absolutely brilliantly. She is a credit to her club, Bradford College, Yorkshire and England.”
On winning the silver, Adams (pictured) said: “It’s just sinking in that I’ve won a World Championship medal. It’s a great reward for all the hard work I’ve put in and the sacrifices I’ve made. Being a student through the Boxing Academy has allowed me the time to travel to competitions.”
