City's bid to finish the league's last unbeaten record was scuppered by a sloppy goal this afternoon.
Stuart McCall's side had looked good for a point at Wycombe in a game of few chances.
But Wycombe, who have not lost in the league since April, maintained their impressive streak when Lewis Hunt fired home with 20 minutes left.
City, having defended so solidly, were undone by a deflection as John Mousinho's pass was cut out by a defender only for the ball to rebound off Chris Zebroski into Hunt's path. And the unmarked right back made no mistake from close range.
Wycombe will feel they deserved that fortune after seeing Zebroski's shot at the start of the second half hit the inside of the post and bounce back along the line to a relieved Rhys Evans.
City, backed by a noisy following, had plenty of the play but never seriously rattled the best defence in the league. Omar Daley's pace caused problems in the first half but Wycombe keeper Scott Shearer was well protected by his solid backline.
CITY: Evans, Moncur, Lee, M Clarke, O'Brien, Law, T Clarke, McLaren, Daley, Thorne, Conlon. Subs: Arnison, Heckingbottom, M Boulding, Osborne, McLaughlin.
