Another deadly sting in tail

Darlington 2, City 1

Darlington dished another dollop of late misery on Stuart McCall’s Bantams.

For the third game in four, City were stung by a goal in the dying minutes as their hopes of hitting top spot disappeared in the soaking north-east air.

All the excitement of City’s first live television appearance for three years was crammed into the final seven minutes.

Up to that point, a third 0-0 in four meetings between the sides was on the cards as defences ruled the day.

But Neil Austin lit the fireworks with an explosive free-kick, Omar Daley responded within a minute, before Darlington struck again as Graeme Lee appeared to get the decisive touch when he challenged Liechtenstein international Franz Burgmeier for a cross into the goalmouth.

So three points had been tossed away late on in a couple of tough days.

City started with only four of the side that won 3-1 at Darlington in March, a result regarded by McCall as one of the best last season. Two of those, Kyle Nix and Quakers old boy Barry Conlon, both came back in after the weekend.

Michael Boulding and Daley made way, McCall possibly feeling the Jamaican was not up to playing back-to-back games so soon after his long haul back from the World Cup qualifiers.

Boulding, feeling his ankle from Saturday, and Daley were named on the bench but Willy Topp was again a notable absentee, despite travelling with the squad.

City could not get hold of the ball for the first 15 minutes as Darlington dictated. Jason Kennedy took a couple of hopeful pot-shots from midfield but the closest effort came on the turn from on-loan Ipswich striker Billy Clarke, which was deflected behind.

The visitors were also grateful that skipper Steve Foster produced a typical defender’s finish high and wide after he found himself unmarked in the box.

But City were winning the foul count and their first foray into the Darlington danger zone was frustratingly cut short by a whistle against Dean Furman.

Austin reacted angrily when Paul McLaren slid in late on him by the touchline but referee Rob Shoebridge took no action against the midfielder.

Furman looked full of beans again and produced a peach of a pass to slip Joe Colbeck behind the Darlo back four. Colbeck fired the ball across goal but just beyond the reach of Conlon coming in at the far post.

Darlington immediately went close at the other end as Liam Hatch’s air kick fell into the path of former Champions’ League winger Burgmeier. Rhys Evans raced to block him but, having flicked the ball away, Burgmeier was unable to get the shot in.

The crowd figure was well down because of the temptation of watching it on TV and both ends taunted each other with a chorus of “You could have come in a taxi.”

It was not the most riveting entertainment whether you were watching in the stands or the armchair but at least the cavernous surroundings ensured the 464 away fans – less than half the amount who came up the A1 last time – stayed dry through a first-half deluge.

Evans nearly came unstuck on the slippy surface as Hatch raced to close him down in the corner of the penalty area. But the keeper made amends a moment later with a crucial save to bat away Clarke’s flick header from a Burgmeier free-kick.

Darlington’s front two were posing a few awkward questions and Peter Thorne popped up handily in front of his own goal to shepherd away a close-range stab by Hatch.

Thorne had certainly been given nothing to feed on at the other end as City failed to create a single shot in anger. TJ Moncur tried to get things going as he powered past Burgmeier’s half-hearted challenge to get into a good crossing position but then scuffed his kick.

Darlington keeper Simon Brown won’t have had a much easier 45 minutes, with only a corner and overhit cross from Colbeck to deal with.

But at least there was a much more solid air about the Bantams backline after the recent defensive shortcomings, which McCall had demanded in the wake of Saturday’s two-goal setback against Gillingham.

The City fans were calling for Daley’s introduction as the second half kicked off but they almost had a breakaway goal to celebrate.

McLaren threaded a ball through for Colbeck, who drifted inside to take on Ryan Valentine before drilling another dangerous ball across the goalmouth which again flew just too fast for Conlon to make contact. At least it was a sniff of a scoring chance, even if the shot column remained untroubled.

There was a bit more attacking adventure about City and Nix scampered promisingly into Darlo territory before running into a dead end.

Clarke, the division’s second-top marksmen behind Thorne, still looked the most likely poacher on the pitch. He wiggled his way to squirt an effort wide before City finally mustered a first shot of their own.

Colbeck’s effort after 53 minutes flew a couple of yards wide but it was a welcome lift for the supporters, who were creating a wall of noise behind Brown’s goal.

Moncur received the game’s first yellow card just before the hour and could have no complaints after going through ex-Basle midfielder Burgmeier.

City were looking strong in the air defensively, with Clarke and Lee more like their commanding selves after a few iffy performances.

Colbeck was getting more into the game and McCall decided to throw Daley into the mix on the left after 63 minutes.

Before he had touched the ball, Hatch controlled well on his chest and fired across goal, although Evans had it covered all the way.

Darlington sensed an opening when Rob Purdie’s cross into the box bounced over Conlon but Clarke stuck out a long leg to hook the ball clear as Hatch looked to pounce. Then McLaren nicked the ball away from the striker as he shaped to pull the trigger.

But Evans remained pretty untroubled as Ricky Ravenhill’s clip over the top raced away from Kennedy’s burst into the box.

Daley joined Moncur in the book and then put City in trouble as the ball glanced off his head into the penalty area. Lee’s clearing header went only as far as Purdie, whose finish was horrible – and he knew it, burying his face in his shirt.

Ravenhill was yellow-carded for bundling over Daley and McLaren’s free-kick was met by a downward header from Lee, forcing Brown to make his first meaningful save.

But with a goalless stalemate beckoning, the game suddenly burst into life with two goals inside a minute.

Clarke pulled down Hatch 30 yards out and right back Austin dipped the free-kick over the wall and into the roof of the net, with Evans only able to get a slight touch as the ball passed him.

But before Darlington’s cheers had subsided, City hit back straight from the kick off. Daley picked up possession on the flank, rode a couple of challenges as he drifted inside and his shot took a deflection on the way to the far bottom corner.

That should have been good enough for City and substitute Boulding almost pounced in a scramble – but once again there was a deadly sting in the tail.

Evans turned away Burgmeier’s drive but Darlington kept the ball alive and when Purdie whisked the cross back in, the winger and defender Lee made joint contact into the net from six yards.

The key points from the game, as I saw it, (from the back of the East Stand) were as follows;

Although we didn't play well enough, we did play a lot better than of recent.

The defence looked a lot more solid, although the two goals were once again as a result of defensive errors.

Their first goal was a free kick caused by Clarke hauling down their player, Hatch, when he was going nowhere. It was a stupid freekick, in a dangerous area, to give away and we were punished accordingly. Evans could and should have done better with his position.

The second goal was caused by more poor play. Firstly, Furman was caught dithering with the ball. He got up to make another challenge, but they still came away with the ball. TJ was non-existent in tracking Burgmeier into the middle and he played a ball through to Purdie, which O'Brien got a foot to. However, the ball went loose and both Clarke and TJ just watched as Burgmeier followed up to shoot. Evans saved us and the danger should have been cleared.

Unfortunately, we went to sleep again. The ball was pushed out to the left side of our penalty area where Purdie chased for it. Clarke jogged across, never looking like putting pressure on the cross and their lad had all the time in the world to put the ball in the mix. From the resulting cross, Furman was marking nobody and both Lee and TJ were caught the wrong side of their men.

It may seem like I am picking on our defence at the moment, but that is exactly how I saw it. These are basic errors and unless McCall sorts it out and fast, our promotion aspirations may be gone by the new year.

Finally, if I was to give ratings for tonight's performance, they would read like this:

Evans 6
Moncur 6
O'Brien 7
Clarke 6
Lee 6
Colbeck 6
Nix 6
McLaren 6
Furman 7
Conlon 6

The players should be ashamed of themselfs most of them are simply not good enough, they are forgetin that they get a wage to play, cant control or play simple balls, they are showing they real form now, we will be lucky if we get out of league 2 mid table finish again.

is teh ball a hot potato: no one with teh ability to hold it and dictate play: the final goal was a disgrace as Clarke menadered out to a ball whilst their player did not give it up sprinting some distance: cLARKE WAS STILL 10 YARDS SHORT and mage no effort to get a challende in or get a block in.

When we did get the ball the weight of some of the passes was simply awful and it was as though we have learned nothing.

Conlon was better defending that attacking but having said that thes ervice to the two front men was none existant!!!

POOR:POOR AND POOR: even fitness levels looked dodgy and again I note no Topp.

Mid-table form again last night and looking very shaky.

TJMoncur and Clarke a liability at the minute, midfield absent again and hard to understand why we have Boulding yet don't give him the ball.

Furman is a busy lad in midfield, but virtually all of his passes go backward, encouraging the long ball game. We got rid of Eddie Johnson and have replaced him with someone similar. He won't score the goals Nix (who is looking sidelined)did last year.

McCall needs to work on defending crosses. How many goals have we conceded from corners/crosses this year, usually from the same side?

Conlon was ineffective in attack as usual. Bizarre how he can head the ball consistently in defence but can't get near it up front.

I feel sorry for Topp. Looked the classiest player we had last year, but something isn't right between him and McCall.

It looks like we are just simply not as good as we thought we were going to be. The defensive frailties are all too obvious, despite keeping them scoreless for 80 mins last night, a lot of that was more by luck than great defending.

The players seem to be mentally soft as well, lack of concentration, basic errors, goals being conceded time and again in the last ten minutes of games.

I do not want to see one more City player spouting the usual drivel in the T&A prior to games the way that Graeme Lee did last week and Colbeck did before the Luton game. It is complete and utter drivel. They have to earn the right to be top of the league and pushing consistently for promotion. A lot of these players seem to believe that because they have been tipped as favourites for the league they can simply turn up fo a game and expect to win rather than earning that right and it's not good enough.

There is a team there capable of doing it but i am afraid at the moment we are a team vying for a play off place at best, not automatic promotion.

First time on here, regular reader but never commented, but what i saw last night was woeful, clarke is hopeless, big strong lad yes but can't play football, i feel Lee is basically one his own in the middle and is making him look bad too, i firmly belive Lee is a good player. Surely Bower is worth a shout, it's not that long ago that he was a good defender in the championship. The long ball is a concern too, seems if we can't get it to the wings then it just a case of lumping it forward and hoping. Great shame, Maybe SM wants to remember how he played the game, on the floor, and pass that onto his team.

Last night was absolutely not good enough. What has happened since the first few games of the season, where we were knocking the ball about for fun and almost scoring goals at will. We looked as though we could score almost everytime that we went forward. Good players do not become bad players overnight. Stuart needs to take a long hard look at the resources available to him, and if it means ruffling a few feathers by dropping a few that think they have a god given right to be in the team, then so be it. We have without doubt (on paper anyway) one of the most attractive looking squads in the division, but sadly for whatever reason, they are just not performing when they step over the whitewash. I will as always continue to support my team, but time and time again we are left looking at the prospects of another mediocre season after such a promising start. Come on lads, lets start doing the business again, and get that feel-good factor back.

Agree with the majority of comments but to be honest i would go a bit further. I thought we were up against Real Madrid for first 15 mins. All night we could not string 2 passes together. Surely Daley should have rested Saturday and played full 90 last night? Nix was excellent v Leeds but since then has looked well out of sorts. You could put it down to lack of match sharpness i suppose. Central midfield is where games are won & lost and we never got a grip. I am giving McLaren every chance but he can't keep starting games with performances like that. Moncur is not a right back, he is a promising young centre back - why is Arnison still on the bench? Only Colbeck looked like doing anything and even he is a little below par at the moment. Never been a massive fan of Clarke, get Bower fit and a Bower/Lee partnership has possibilities. O'Brien also needs taking out of the firing line unless he gets up and down more. The one occasion we saw him going forward in 1st half he won a corner but that was it for the night in terms of his attacking play. Furman might merit a 6/10, would not give anyone else more than 4, it was that bad. Also agree with the post about the press. Do not speak to the press for a week, get down to the training ground and work harder. That goes for the management team as well. We were told we have the highest wage bill in this Division this season - well last night was simply not good enough - if it was anyone's team other than McCall's the managers head would be on the block for that.

You clearly didn't go last night and I doubt you watched it on the box either.

"hard to understand why we have Boulding yet don't give him the ball." Michael Boulding came on as a second half substitute. None of the strikers got any good service, although Colbeck did get in a couple of crosses.

"He won't score the goals Nix (who is looking sidelined)did last year." Sidelined? Nixy DID play last night, but for some reason looked out of his depth.

Finally, "Furman is a busy lad in midfield, but virtually all of his passes go backward, encouraging the long ball game." If we haven't got any runners from midfield, the ball will have to go backwards. For some reason we have no, or little, movement up front and as a result means we do have to go backwards to start again.

At the beginning of the season, both Daley and Colbeck were running at the fullbacks for fun. How many fullbacks were subbed against our wingers? Now, Colbeck seems to want to play in centre midfield instead of on the wing. So many times last night, we received the ball and were expected Joe to make a dash for the ball. It never happened. Yet, when we did get the ball out wide, we did look dangerous. Daley scored from his wing and Colbeck fizzed a few decent crosses into the box. The problem is we aren't doing that enough. Why is Colbeck not giving us an outlet on the wing? Why is he tucked into the middle alongside Furman & McLaren? Does he not have confidence that our central midfield partnership can cope in the middle on their own?

Another point is that when Conlon attacks the ball (as he does when we are defending) he WILL win his headers. However, if you just loft the ball up to him, with his back to goal, he isn't going to be effective. If you are going to play it up to him, it needs to be on the deck or his chest area, NOT 2 foot above his baldy head. This can be seen clearly when a cross comes in from our byline. He is capable of getting up and attacking the ball, but if you just expect him to leap and bring it down, it won't work.

Im writing this more out of frustration than anything else as ive not been bothered to comment on some of the idiotic fans that write on here. Its quite evident that City have lost the will to work hard enough when they dont have possession, closing down the opposition and giving them less time on the ball. If you start with a tempo where your like that when you dont have the ball, then when you do get the ball there will be more urgency about your play and we all know the better the tempo the better we play. I like Furman, he gets in amongst them but as for McClaren I think for me he is the biggest disapointment alongside Lee this season so far.

Lee needs to regain the authority he had at the start, and McClaren needs to get it in his head that the most assists in League 1 last year doesnt mean anything this season. Its like we go on to the pitch and expect the other team to let us win. We need to start doing the dirty work because its clear we have the class, but whether we have the desire is another thing. I thought City's best player was Clarke last night , he won everything in the air and made some good tackles, yes he is awful in possession but we are in league 2 and no centre defenders are going to be as good as ferdinand on the ball. Hopefully Stu can get a grip and get that fire in the bellies.

How much more of this can we take? More points thrown away from yet more abysmal defending.
Clarke gives away a needless free-kick and Darlington score from a shot which Evans should have got a hand to. Then an awful touch from O'Brien enables the Darlington player to get in a shot, and from the subsequent cross Lee finds himself in no man's land and helps head the ball in.
Wetherall and Jacobs were both specialist defenders. Can't they do something more to sort out this lot? Failing that, you might as well play Conlon at centre half.
Grimsby on Friday night - and what's the betting we're going to concede another decisive goal some time after the 85th minute when we switch off yet again?
One last point - does anyone know where McLaren is when the chips are down? He just seems to disappear down some black hole in midfield.

Went to the game last night, and must say, craig from Odsal has just summed the whole thing up in one sentence. 'Our players look mentally soft!"

When in posession at fullback, Moncur (who is no fullback for me...!)hoofed the ball either into touch or straight to there cenmtre halves. Where has all the build up on the floor play gone?! Players like Furman and McLaren are passing players, so everytime we hoof the ball from the back, we bypass the midfield! We bypass our creativity!

Arnison should have been played last night, he can overlap with Colbeck much better than Moncur, and also, playing this long ball up the middle, again removes the option of using players like Boulding who are better with the ball on the floor.

Generally disappointing, the worst part being we know we can play, and with the players we have, when confident, can kill teams off. I know this as this did at the beginning of the season.

I just hope they are not going to turn into a team of bottlers this season and think McCall is right now to look to the loan market. A new centre half a priority, maybe a right full back. Midfield is not a problem and our strikers do score. But our defence is all over the place at the moment, and even Evans looked shakey in net.

Here's hoping we turn this around or promotion will have to be forgotten about

Either you didn't go to the game or you were watching Newcastle v Man City and thought you were watching City.

"Clarke was City's best player"? You are joking aren't you! He was at fault for both goals. His last ditch clearances were usually as a result of him putting himself and his defensive colleagues under pressure in the first place. He gave away umpteen freekicks just outside our box (which they eventually scored from) and went walk-about far too often.

He almost gave them a penalty with a lunge that some referees may have given and in the last few minutes, he almost injured Evans when he allowed the ball to drop between our keeper and their player. Overall he just wasn't good enough.

If he was "City's best player", we may as well complete our registration for the Blue Square now.

WRONG!!!!!!

Clarke pulled their guy to the ground. Watch it again matey. He did this all night and gave away loads of fouls.

Yes, Lee (Furman and TJ) all defended poorly for the second goal, but why didn't Clarke attempt to cut out the cross. His lazy blaise attitude cost us a point.

I don't know what football coaching you got, but I was always told to clear your lines and make sure you cut out the crosses.

Watch the goals again and you will see Clarke DID foul their player for the freekick (Evans was then at fault from the resulting freekick).

For the second goal, O'Brien cut out a pass and neither Clarke or TJ closed down Burgmeier. His shot was well saved, but whereas Purdie burst a gut to get to the ball, Clarke sauntered across and allowed him time to pick his cross.

Nowhere near good enough. We have too many players performing below standard at the moment, Stuart keeps coming out and saying we weren't good enough but sticks with largely the same team. I think it may be time to kick a few backsides - sounds like that might be about to happen with a dip into the loan market.

Colbeck is struggling for form at the moment, 9 times out of 10 his first touch is awful, his decision making is off target much like most of his shooting. Thorne is spot on as a goalscorer but he needs to work harder to defend from the front - like Lee Mills used to. Furman had a pretty good game but was at fault for their second goal - he tracked their lad right into the 6 yard box then went ball watching, ball sails over his head and it's a simple header.

I'm not knocking them because I know they can do it. They've maybe got a bit complacent so hopefully the threat of a shake up might do the trick. 4 games in 10 days doesn't give much time for sorting things out but these sort of fixture clusters often result in form being turned upside down either good to bad or vice versa. We started off in poor form so heopfully we'll come out of it playing well again.

Keep the faith!

our wingers need to play wider also they must read the game better and make runs that help our midfielders in decision making ie. where to direct passes. To often when the fullbacks are on the attack our wingers do not take up a position to receive a pass that could open up the opposing defence.I also feel that clarke needs to be dropped,he does not look like a natural athlete in fact at times looks very uncomfortable on the ball, which in turn puts more pressure on lee,for me the one bright light in last nights performance was young obrien. As a footnote lets not be to pessimistic it is still early doors lets go grimsby in force on friday and get behind the team.

People are so busy slagging off Conlon that they have missed the fact that our defense is crap. conlon and the forwards are doing alright, it is Clarke especially who needs to switch on.

I can't remember reading a post from you before Tony, but you are spot on with your analysis.

Our wingers (in particular) are simply not making runs when they haven't got the ball. This in turn means our fullbacks run into trouble. In additon, when our centre backs do have the ball, they have nobody to play it too as we are all clustered together in the middle with no width.

I also agree with your comments regarding Clarke and O'Brien. At last someone that can actually see the faults (and the plusses).

Waynus, I just think your being harsh on Blaming clarke when other individuals were at fault too. I will watch it again and yes I was also told to cut out the crosses and send the man wide(which is why I hope Heckingbottom doesnt play again) he is the worst for that. I think the only positive out of the last few games is O'Brien... looks a decent full back
I went to the game last night (unlike what others may have posted) and saw with my own two eyes how poor Clarke was. The cameras for SKY don't really show the whole picture. On plenty of occasions, Clarke was out of position, but because he was no where near the ball, this wasn't shown on TV.

I appreciate what you are saying about others being at fault for the goals. We should be able to defend a freekick, but if you give enough away, it is only a matter of time before one goes in the top corner. That said, I think EVANS could and should have done better.

As for the second goal, I would blame four players. FURMAN lost the ball and despite trying to win it back near their right side, he didn't and they came away with it. TJ tracked their player (Burgmeier) into the middle, but never attempted to make a tackle. Once Burgmeier tried to play in Purdie and O'Brien got a foot to it, both CLARKE & TJ should have charged down Burgmeier's shot. As a result, Evans palmed it back out towards Purdie. Even at that stage, we had enough bodies around our penalty area to clear the danger, starting with CLARKE.

However, instead of closing down the cross, he stood off and allowed Purdie to put in a good delivery. Now at that stage, we were struggling. Having seen the replay today, I note TJ & LEE were both the wrong side of their men and FURMAN was simply marking nobody. He wasn't even standing on the line. A very poor goal to give away no matter how you look at it.

Notwithstanding, I stand by what I have said already. With minutes to go, the priority should have been to make sure the first shot was charged down (and that didn't happen) and then we should have stopped the cross being made (and didn't). Both of these fundamental rules in football were not actioned and CLARKE was guilty on both.

I want to make it clear that I am not a Clarke hater. When he came into the side last season at the expense of Bower, I was the first to say well done. I like him. He usually does the right things well, even if his distribution is poor. I would rather a defender defend well than be a good passer but a rubbish defender. I just think he is going through a confidence crisis and the only way of stopping the rot is to take him out of the firing line.

I cant believe the performance last night, as so many of you have stated we were 3pts from the top of the table but for me there wasnt an ounce of desire or determination to claim top spot.
Yet again we started so poorly, allowing wave after wave of pressure.
The defence again were shocking, only O'Brien can claim any sort of credit, the commentator gary Birtles hit the nail on the head with City's real problem, MIDFIELD!!i remember a few posts after gills game asking why do teams seem to pass better and retain the ball better.
The answer is easy, they have two central midfielders who can pass and move which creates space and adds to attacking options, ie midfielders into the box. However we're stuck with Mclaren, my nan has better movement, what does he bring to the team? as others have stated he goes missing for long periods of the game. when was the last time you saw him use his height to win a header, Conlon had to constantly drop 20yrds to win headers where the midfielders should be winning it.His tackling is non exstant, a team is driven by it's midfield, its where the tempo comes from. But how can you have a good tempo when one of your midfielders cant cross into the oppo's half because they're so slow they cant track back if we loose the ball??
Those of you who still look through rose tinted glasses need to look at our form in the last six games, 1 win is not promotion form.
Again i will say it, Mccall needs a ball winner and a real leader.

Nobody is saying we are playing well or that we deserve to be top. Nobody is looking at things and not being concerned. However, we do need to keep a level head. A season isn't won in October. We are going through a bad patch. There isn't anyone that can disagree with that. However, I firmly believe it is down to a lack of confidence. Once we can sort that out, we will kick on again. We haven't become a bad side from when we were top of the league.

Hopefully, McCall will bring in a couple of players and this will raise morale and lift team spirit.

Tonight's results:

Coca-Cola Football League Two

Accrington Stanley 2-1 Shrewsbury
Barnet 1-1 Wycombe
Bournemouth 2-1 Dag & Red
Brentford 3-1 Morecambe
Bury 1-2 Rotherham
Gillingham 2-2 Notts County
Grimsby 2-2 Luton
Macclesfield 1-2 Lincoln City
Port Vale 1-3 Exeter
Rochdale 6-1 Chester

Will Shrewsbury, Wycombe, Daggers & Bury fans be crying tonight saying they are the worst team in the league and the coaching staff need to be sacked? Will they f#ck!

With fans like some of you lot, who needs rivals!!!!!!!!

Why do we constantly have to read rubbish from people saying 'Get rid of Jacobs'. Why?? Because he lacks football knowledge? He hasn't enough experience? What is the reason? If it is any of the above, you may as well go the whole hog and get rid of McCall, Wethers, Richards, Martyn, Casper & not forgetting John Hendrie.

The constant barracking of Jacobs' credentials is the one thing that does p!ss me off. We keep reading that McCall needs an experienced head beside him. Someone who has been in this position before.

Is that what we did with Paul Jewell? He was a rookie manager being given his first chance in management (having stepped up from being Kamara's assistant). McCall himself stepped up from assistant to Warnock. No difference so far.

Jewell asked Hutchings to assist him at City. Hutchings had only ever been a youth team coach at Rotherham. We have brought in Jacobs, who was assistant manager at Halifax.

Can anyone please explain the difference between their experience, because I haven't got a f#cking clue!

Your arguments are just tosh.

Expectations? All these teams are aiming for promotion. They aren't there to make up the bl00dy numbers. Of course their fans will hurt, especially Wycombe when they are top and can't beat Grimsby or Barnet. They also got a recent 7-0 spanking in the paint-pot trophy.

Shrewsbury spent a lot of money this season to get promoted and couldn't even beat Accrington Stanley. Not as much expectaton? Are you having a laugh. Then again, people like you think we should be in the Premiership challenging for Europe, with the fans we have. What a laugh. Fans like these, who needs rivals. You lot are more vicious towards our club than Hudders or Leeds fans!

"Shrewsbury will no doubt return to winning ways at the weekend, will we???"

Yes, I expect us to beat Grimsby on Friday night. Two teams struggling for form and confidence very low. However, we have the class (even if it hasn't been apparent of late) to beat them.

As for Shrews, they have been beaten twice in the last couple of weeks, Port Vale 1-2 and Accrington Stanley 1-2. Do I expect Brentford to win at home. Yes I do!

What's your next argument going to be!

I dont mind loosing, its the manner in which you lose, im sorry to say it but we gave a poor account of ourselves on sky, we gave away so many free kicks we could have been punished far worse than what we did which im sure Stuart warned them about, for me Baz was our best defender ! We are missing Bully for his industrious midfield performances, someone said its all won in midfield, I too was expecting big things from McClaren but for whatever reason it hasent happened. We need to get back to basics and learn to how to keep the ball.
