Bradford Bulls have decided to share with T&A readers another dimension of themselves by introducing the Bulls Community Blog.

It is hoped this will not only give an update as to what the community team have been up to in the local area but also give a heads-up on forthcoming events, plus the opportunity to win an array of fabulous prizes. So here goes!

Well, it’s been a hectic but brilliant last few weeks for the department, with three major events – integrating a whole host of people – taking place at Grattan Stadium, Odsal.

The first of these saw over 60 primary schools throughout the city don their kit and proudly represent their school in the annual West Yorkshire Police’s Child Victims of Crime Year Six Mixed Tag Rugby Tournament.

In association with Tong School Sports Partnership and the Rugby Football Union, a great day was had by all in the sunshine.

Wibsey, Ley Top, Home Farm, Usher Street, Haworth, Ben Rhydding, Hoyle Court and Wellington schools won their respective leagues.

The day then rounded off in style with finalists Haworth and Hoyle Court showing a superb display of skill and, perhaps more importantly, team spirit after running out through the tunnel to play the final on the pitch, with Haworth clinching the silverware.

The second feature was a child safety event, held in conjunction with the Bradford Safeguarding Children’s Board.

It incorporated interactive activities, including learning how to cross the road, rescue someone in water and ride a bike safely. This was visited by over 300 children to mark National Child Safety Week.

Last, but by no means least, was the launch of the latest in the Bullboy Book Series ‘Bullboy and the Magic Album’, which brought an air of showbiz and glamour to the five lucky primary schools who attended.

They not only starred on BBC’s Look North in a television feature about the event but also got the chance to have a private reading of the book from some of those who helped in its creation – and take a free copy home.

The children also got to rub shoulders with some of the book’s stars, including legendary past players, who hail from as far afield as Africa, and, of course, Bullboy himself.

And as we love nothing better than keeping active and providing support to you guys, the fun doesn’t stop there.

Forthcoming events include a trip for the entire first-team squad to primary schools in and around the Batley area.

There is also the hosting of the next instalment of the Coaching Masterclass series, which is open to all coaches of any sport within the Bradford and Keighley area.

This will be a practical session held on the pitch at Grattan Stadium on July 21, while there will also be the next Junior Bulls activity club in the Coral Stand at the stadium on July 24.

It is important to point out, before we end this first Bulls Community Blog, that none of this good work could be done without the Bradford Bulls Foundation.

This is the registered charity of the Bulls, whose funding and support ensures the continued function of the club’s Community Development Department, enabling us to provide you with the best possible service.
