Steve McNamara expressed his delight at seeing influential skipper Paul Deacon ripping up opponents again.

The Bulls scrum half returned after his latest hamstring problems to instantly inspire them to a 42-14 win over Hull FC yesterday.

Man-of-the-match Deacon was a constant thorn in the Challenge Cup finalists with his field kicking and clever distribution.

He bagged a personal haul of 18 points, from a fantastic solo try and seven goals, as well as creating further scores for Matt Cook and James Evans.

“Paul Deacon was really good for us,” said McNa-mara.

“He’s missed a lot of the season and was desperate to get back in there.

“He was really excited about playing, and that showed in his performance.

“That try will be good for his confidence and I’m really pleased Deacs has managed to get back playing before the end of the season.”

The success – only their second victory in six games – strengthens Bradford’s hold on sixth spot.

However, Hull KR produced a sensational 36-34 win at Warrington to leave them three points behind with two rounds to go.

McNamara said: “I never expected us to be clear after this and it will make for a good game now on Bank Holiday Monday when we play Rovers here on TV.”

I thought Deacon was awesome yesterday. We really miss him when he's not in the side, it was the best Ive seen him play in a long long time.

Solomona still needs to lose some weight and get fit. I can't see that happening though as I think he's too lazy to do it.

Although in the end we won the game by a fair few points I feel the score line flattered us. We were very poor in spells again, any decent team would have taken us to the cleaners.

Cook impressed again, he looks very lively. I hope to see more first team appearances for him next season.

The challenge to that. Is for the person who said it to do a Full days training with him and see if he keeps up

Ha! ha! nice one blotto.
Sol has had a lot of probs with his knee. A bit like Tame did. Trouble is it does affect your ability to train and if he's the type who puts weight on easily it soon shows. There is no doubt both he and the fitness staff will be aware and hopefully a good close season will see him fit for next term. Why people feel the need to knock all our players is for them to decide but the likes of Deaks , Harris, Platt, Toupou, Sol, Cook, Vagana, Newton, Nero, Jefferies, Have all taken stick from those who know it all.

People who know it all but can actually do jack s**t is the point Haitch. It's when people bring personal vendettas and their own tawdry dull axes to grind that it gets boring and annoying frankly.

That said I do feel Nero owes us some big games and needs to stop falling off tackles like he did first half yesterday.

Solomona is a full time professional sportsman and therefore if an ordinary member of the public could keep up with hime for a full days training then something would be very wrong. Could Solomona keep up with say Gilmour or Wilkin for a full days training?
Solomona has all the skills any Super League player needs and then some. We saw with Wakefield that he can win games by himself, but in two seasons we have only seen glimses of it. He has never looked fit in a conventional sense and if he is carrying injuries then he is becoming more ineffective. If he is prone to putting on weight the answer is simple - stop eating so much!

Sol does look out of shape but hasn't he always???? If he looks out of shape then what about Newton? He was shocking yesterday especially his passing which were so far forward he could have got in Leeds team, Wagga performed much better at hooker when he came on.
Young Johnson put in a decent effort but it was between Deacs, Lynch and Finnigan for MOM IMO, as with a few of the other posts, a win is a win but we need to step up again next Monday.

Thought Newton shifted a bit for his try which was more than some of the other forwards could do.
I thought that Newton was off contract at the end of this season, if that is the case there has n't been any news about an extension to to his contract!
Cook surprised me yesterday. I have never rated him previously but he looked ok at Leeds and yesterday.

Don't think stopping eating is a good idea for a RL player to loose weight!! It might be fine for Twiggy or Kate Moss.
A RL player should eat well and train it off but if your knees are crocked it's difficult!

Newton is OOC at the end of 2009.

Ralphie. Yes I know what you mean really!! Its just that I think injuries to players, especially legs means they have difficulty in training to the intensity which turns fat to muscle. It's a problem lots of players get. I'm not sure he's 'lazy', though of course he may be.

Of course he's lazy, Haitch.

He's a notorius bad trainer, Frank Endacott explains in his autobiog

Frank Endacott was in good shape though werent he, that good shape being round!
Would Sol be as effective and strong near line if he lost loads of weight? Agree he does need to lose a few pounds if anything to try ensure he can last a full game, he should take a leaf out of Lynchys book!
Sol obviously wants to be in same shape at Clogger the fitness guru!!!

lol, he was and is a very well respected rugby coach though.

Solomona would be heaps better if he lost some bulk, simply because he wouldnt get out of air as quick and would be a bit sharper.

Agree on both points Mickster. Since he has been over here he has always been on the chunky side but a good pre season minus the chips would do him and the team the world of good.
I appreciate he has not been able to train solidly due to knee injuries but it is no excuse in the position he plays.

your having a laugh re wagga surely. Its no coincidence that our bad spell in the middle of match coincided with when godwin was on pitch. Yes he put a lot of effort in but it was directionless and didnt create anything. Newton had a hand in 2 or 3 tries and we scored majority of our tries when he was on pitch. He did one obvious forward pass that I recall but generally had a good game especially considering he came back on with an injury.

Cant believe Mickster and Damo are so quiet> Not one mention about how Deacon transformed the team and got them moving forward. What has happened to the constant ridicule you were both handing out. We have a perfectly good scrum half, yes a bit of cover would not go amiss but I think your words have been proven unjust once again

Haitch & Blotta ,Please take the Rosecoloured glasses off.Solomona should be ashamed of his fitness this year. For god's sake the guy's a professional rugby player.
If he wants a role model he should look no further than "Big Joe".He realised he was overweight but tried hard trained hard in the off season & watched what he was eating. This has prolonged his career by at lease two seasons!!
Dont get me started on Tupou. If he wasnt already out of the country I would take he personally to the Airport.Total waste of an overseas spot in the team.Basically his heart's not in it , but then we get told he could make an emergency prop. dont make me laugh!!!

Sorry I've been away gents. I'm on paternity leave for 3 weeks so this is a rare post.

Deacon...awesome. Not only the kicking, passing and defence but the dummy, pace thru the line (who said he was slow?) and then a lovely sidestep around the fullback...no Hull defender could get near him!

Sol doesn't look fully fit but he's still head and shoulders better than Terry Newton who looked pedestrian for the past couple of weeks. I'd rather see Harris/Godwin rotate at Dummy Half and get rid of Dummy Sucker Newton!
